I’ve written a post about why people love to read fiction. But here’s a more personal look into why I enjoy reading.
Writers of books come up with the best stories.
Nowadays especially, I’m so frustrated with writers of TV shows and movies. And most of the good ones are adaptations of books. Feel free to argue with me, but this is my opinion. I don’t know why this is, but I’ve been entertained far more by reading books than I ever have by movies or TV shows. I think that as long as you have even a little sense of imagination, you will find so many more stories with decent plots and characters that seem real within the pages of a book.
Reading is so relaxing.
Everyone has their go-to ways of escaping reality. Mine has always been reading. To me, it’s the easiest way to completely forget my problems for a short while and dive into someone else’s story. It’s also a reminder that I’m not the only one with problems.
Books are the ultimate way to learn.
I’m a firm believer that we should always be learning. We will never improve ourselves otherwise. Even fantasy books may open you up to a new experience, or even a new word or phrase. It is so important to have new experiences that open up your mind to new possibilities. Books are a fantastic way to do this without having to travel or spend money. I find myself constantly thinking about different ways I could go about fixing my own problems because of something I’ve read in a book.
Reading is the best way to be alone, but not feel alone.
I am a total introvert, even though people amaze me. I hate crowds and loud places, and generally prefer being alone. Books are a convenient way to be alone, yet be in the company of the characters on the page. They almost come alive in a way that feels safe to introverts like me. Books give us a way to experience adventure from our own comfort zone. I love the feeling that I can open the pages of a book and experience that thrill without leaving my backyard.
Reading has been the activity that has most improved my life by giving me the knowledge, thrill, and sense of comfort that I crave on a daily basis.
Why do you love reading?
