Are you an author looking to get a second pair of eyes on your manuscript?
By day, I’m a freelance editor and proofreader at Purple Rose Editing LLC.
My specialty is working with self-published authors (or those looking to self-publish) in all of the subgenres of fantasy fiction.
I have a love for story and an eye for detail, and I would love to help you edit your fantasy manuscript.
I am currently available to provide full edits (developmental, content, copy, and proofreading).
*Though I specialize in fantasy, I will edit other fiction genres and have experience with nonfiction as well. Contact me at purpleroseediting@gmail.com for more information.
My Credentials
Fiction Editing: I trained to become an editor with the Wandering Wordsmith Academy. Through the course, I learned how to edit fiction at a developmental, content, and copy level. I then passed an editing test done on an actual author’s manuscript on all levels.
Proofreading: I’ve completed the General Proofreading: Theory and Practice™ training, where I learned to proofread manuscripts. In this course, I was taught to proof based on The Chicago Manual of Style and practiced my skills on various stories.
*Goddard is my maiden name.
Portfolio of Select Fantasy/Fiction Projects
I love helping self-published authors achieve their dreams. There is nothing like that feeling of knowing you put the best version of your book into readers’ hands. As an editor, it is an honor to be a part of that process.
Exploring new worlds, creatures, and magic is the best part of my job. I have worked in the industry for five years now and also edit in other genres for an agency, but my heart belongs to fantasy.

Testimonials
“I wrote a story for this anthology and sent it to Allison for a final edit before submission. Because it’s a short story, I honestly thought it wouldn’t need too much work and that her review would simply be a formality. Instead, she ended up making a ton of suggestions on everything from major plot points to minor inconsistencies that I never would have picked up on myself, and her edits made the whole story so much better! Having Allison edit my work was definitely worth the investment; I don’t think I would have been accepted into the anthology without her help!” and “Allison is an amazing editor! She caught a handful of issues in my stories that I missed even after multiple rounds of self-edits, and she gave helpful suggestions for how to fix them that weren’t too harsh and made the stories so much better. She also made sure to point out what she loved so I’d know my strengths as well as my weaknesses. Overall, I loved working with her and highly recommend her editing services! She will treat your book with all the love and care it deserves!”—Naomi Lastrucci
“Ah thank you! You caught all my directional challenges and offered some fantastic suggestions.” —Susan Stradiotto
“To Allison Rose at Purple Rose Editing—you were invaluable into turning this book from a 40k word mess into a 114k word thing of beauty. Order of the Hunt began as a series of Wattpad stories to help me flesh out this set of characters, and through multiple rounds of edits and some amazing insights, you helped to really bring it to life. Thank you, thank you, thank you.” and “Allison was amazing to work with. She was understanding, insightful, and a fast worker. She gave great feedback and did not hesitate to tell me what needed a lot of work. I love her developmental editing style and will definitely be using her again in the future.” —Jo Narayan
“Allison Rose edited my manuscript, Cernunnos and the Winged Changeling. I was impressed with the depth of her edits—from rearranging those sticky sentences that needed rearranging, to highlighting plot points that should ideally require more depth, not to mention all those little errors that are hard to spot when you are too close to your own work to see them. She has a gentle but firm hand and delivered her edits in a way that were respective of my emotional attachment to my manuscript. I would totally recommend Allison to others and wouldn’t hesitate to engage her for future edits.” —Corina Douglas
“Thank you to my amazing editor, Allison Rose, of Purple Rose Editing. I am grateful for her eagle eyes and ability to spot the tiniest of errors.” —Tasche Laine

FAQ
When will I get my manuscript back?
This depends on the manuscript itself and the level of editing as well as my editing schedule. If you have a timeline to stick to, we can discuss it.
How does the editing process work?
I edit in Google Docs and Microsoft Word using tracked changes. You can accept or reject these changes as you see fit. Story-level edits will be done as comments in the margins. You are responsible for applying them or not.
How much will editing cost?
I quote per manuscript on a per-word basis. Each manuscript is different, so once you contact me and send me a sample, I can get you a quote.
When is payment due?
I require payment up front before I start a project.
Will you edit a sample for me?
Yes, I will edit a sample of 1,500 words at the same per-word rate I would charge for the entire manuscript. That will then be deducted from the overall price should you decide to work with me.
Will you edit and proofread my manuscript?
If I have done any sort of editing on your manuscript, you should hire a different proofreader. I will be too close to your work to do a thorough proof. I recommend Naomi Lastrucci at Paper Wordsmith and Susan Whittaker at A Way With Words Proofreading.
Do you edit genres other than fantasy?
Yes. I will edit other genres of fiction as well.
What style guides do you follow?
I edit in American English using the rules set out in The Chicago Manual of Style.
Feel free to ask me any other questions you may have as well! Just send me an e-mail at purpleroseediting@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
