Official blurb:
All the fairy tale stories told us they were right under our feet. If only we’d believed them…
The Fae arrived at twilight. Singing their magical nursery rhyme songs luring men and women to their death.
Everyone except Sarah. Her father told her to run, but in a game of hide and seek, the Fae will always win. Taken against her will violet-eyed, Janice offers Sarah an impossible choice: become a contender in the strange underground Fae games or die.
Can Sarah learn enough fairy magic to make it past the first challenge, or will she become another victim of the Fae games, locked in The Hallowed Hills for all time?
It’s a contest with one rule: compete to live.
My rating: three stars out of five
Let me just start by saying that the idea and plot of this book was brilliant. It’s quite the page-turner. Fans of dystopian and fae fantasy alike will enjoy this series.
I think my favorite part was the magic. I have yet to read about singing as magic, and the fact that everything had its own frequency and notes required to speak to it/manipulate it was so cool.
Though the main character was a bit immature at times, I can appreciate her drive, intelligence, and appreciation for animals and plants.
There was a hint that there might be romance, though I am not sure. This is the first in the series, so it may be yet to come. The fae are certainly appealing, as far as I’m concerned.
So why did I give it three stars? Oh, the grammatical errors. It’s just not something I can normally deal with. The miracle? This is the first book with that amount of grammatical errors that I have finished. I’m quite surprised myself.
Read it for the story, my friends.
