Official blurb:
Brie hates the Fae and refuses to have anything to do with them, even if that means starving on the street. But when her sister is sold to the sadistic king of the Unseelie court to pay a debt, she’ll do whatever it takes to get her back—including making a deal with the king himself to steal three magical relics from the Seelie court.
Gaining unfettered access to the Seelie court is easier said than done. Brie’s only choice is to pose as a potential bride for Prince Ronan, and she soon finds herself falling for him. Unwilling to let her heart distract her, she accepts help from a band of Unseelie misfits with their own secret agenda. As Brie spends time with their mysterious leader, Finn, she struggles to resist his seductive charm.
Caught between two dangerous courts, Brie must decide who to trust with her loyalty. And with her heart.
My rating: four out of five stars
Caught between two fae princes? I was all there for that! I loved the dynamic, but I will say it didn’t feel quite as dramatic as I’d hoped.
That being said, it was still a fantastic story. I switched back and forth between who I wanted Brie to end up with the entire time. Dark, brooding, scorned prince or golden, kind prince that may not be who he says he is?
There was a point at the beginning where it felt really Cinderella-ish, and I was going to be disappointed, but then it took an interesting turn and was not anything I expected after that. Thank goodness.
Abriella (Brie) as a character is kind of naïve at times, and it’s a little hard to like her because she is basically trying to deceive everybody (though for a noble reason). But she is rather fierce and perseverant, and feels tremendous guilt about her actions despite continuing on, so she had good likeability overall. Since you don’t know much about the princes, as they are keeping major secrets from Brie, it’s a little hard to judge them, but I liked that mystery.
The magic is all pretty cool. I mean, who doesn’t want the ability to command shadows and walk through walls? But the best part, in my opinion, was the trickery that went on with the magic—all stemming from curses and lies between the Seelie and Unseeelie courts. Epic twists!
And the ending…it bothered me a little. But I never give away spoilers in reviews, so you’ll just have to read and decide for yourself!
