Book Review – The Fae and the Fallen by Brittni Chenelle

(Cover and blurb taken from Goodreads)

Official blurb:

My first kiss nearly killed me—literally.

When 80% of the population is gifted with touch magic, it’s best to keep your hands—and your lips—to yourself. Especially if you’re an ungifted serf like I am.

The problem is, the most dangerous guy at Gifted Fae Academy is the one I want to touch more than anything, even as I draw the attention of the school’s most gorgeous Apprentice Fae.

When my entry exam leads to the revelation that I may not be as Ungifted as I previously believed…well…surviving until graduation might prove harder than I thought—particularly when a certain fatal touch may be worth the risk.

This Upper YA/NA series will eventually be three books and is intended for mature audiences. It contains cursing, sexual situations, and violence.

My rating: five stars out of five

I loved this book. The dual point of view switching each chapter was so engaging. I really felt Reina’s character. And getting Kai’s perspective (that of a bully) was so interesting.

The magic of this world was incredibly unique. There was kind of a superhero vibe to it, which I loved, where those that were the most magical had a duty to protect everyone else.

The romance was very real and flawed, and I loved it. I won’t say much more in an effort to not reveal spoilers.

I kept wanting to turn the page. The plot is rather suspenseful, and it’s a good thing this is a series because it feels like it’s just getting started.
