Official blurb:
If they discover her secret…
They will kill her and the child she carries.
As Elf Princess of Feylin, there are few crimes worse than the one Aubri has committed: falling in love with a human. Worse, she’s carrying his baby, a forbidden act punishable by death. To save her child, she has only one choice.
To run.
Will she find sanctuary in her sister’s court or will her parents find her first?
Fae politics are the least of her concerns, but when a message from the Court of Shadow comes, she’s forced to play her hand. Vinsan, the human she loves, is in grave danger. Terrified, but determined, Aubri must find a way to save him and protect their child at all costs.
Can she do it?
If you like your fairy tales dark and your heroines daring, you’ll love this story set in a world just a portal away from our own.
My rating: four stars out of five
This book is a prequel, though a pretty long one.
As long as it was, I felt a little rushed. Which is probably because I loved the world and wanted to know more about each court.
I loved the dynamics between the different types of fae and the classes within each court. The magic was unique and an aspect of everyday life. Aubri’s power to sense and influence emotions was my favorite.
I felt like the main plot kind of took a back seat to what was going on with Cindra and Des. Not that Aubri wasn’t cool—I would totally be a part of her court—but Vinsan didn’t play a huge part in the story, and so their story wasn’t as interesting, in my opinion. But, I am so ready to hear about Aubri’s story in the next book!
I’ll let you come to your own conclusions.
